Athletics Annual Report 2025-26

Welcome!

Although I officially joined the Haverford community this summer, it did not take long to recognize what makes this department so special. Throughout the hiring process, I was struck by the genuine commitment to students, the strong sense of community, and the clear belief that athletics is an important part of a Haverford education. Those impressions have only strengthened as I begin this next chapter.

This report reflects a year of achievement across Haverford Athletics. It celebrates competitive success, academic excellence, leadership, service, and the countless ways our student athletes, coaches, and staff contribute to the life of the College. It also highlights the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends whose support continues to expand opportunities for our students.

As you explore this website, I hope you see more than scores, championships, and milestones. I hope you see a community committed to developing thoughtful leaders, resilient teammates, and engaged citizens. The accomplishments highlighted throughout this report are a testament to the dedication of everyone who wears the Haverford uniform and everyone who supports our mission.

Looking ahead, I am excited about what we can accomplish together. Guided by the Athletics Action Plan and grounded in Haverford's educational mission, we have an incredible opportunity to build upon a strong foundation while continuing to elevate the student athlete experience in meaningful and lasting ways.

Thank you for being an important part of Haverford Athletics. Whether you are an alum, parent, student, coach, supporter, or friend of the College, your engagement strengthens our community and helps ensure that future generations of student athletes have the same opportunity to learn, compete, and thrive.

I look forward to meeting many of you in the months ahead and to writing the next chapter of Haverford Athletics together.

Go Fords!

On Saturday, November 8, the Haverford College Athletic Department sent approximately 105 student-athletes to volunteer at the 37th annual Special Olympics Fall Festival at Villanova University, the largest student-run Special Olympics event in the world. Haverford volunteers served meals, assisted athletes, and cheered on competitors as nearly 1,700 athletes, coaches, and volunteers participated in six sports: bocce, long-distance running and walking, powerlifting, flag football, soccer, and volleyball. Led by Haverford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the initiative reflects Division III’s longstanding partnership with Special Olympics, focused on shared learning and community engagement. Special Olympics Pennsylvania provides year-round training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities, promoting fitness, confidence, and inclusion through sport.

Athletics Action Plan Progress

In the 2025-26 academic year Haverford Athletics developed and launched a comprehensive Athletics Action Plan centered on three strategic priorities: elevating the student experience, building strong and inclusive communities, and maximizing competitive success. The plan serves as a clear roadmap to strengthen our impact on student-athletes and the broader College community.

People sitting at tables in a spacious, well-lit indoor space with large windows and wooden accents, possibly a lounge or cafeteria.

Elevating the Student Experience.

Athletics made progress on goals in this category by enhancing student-athlete support services by expanding access to dietitian resources, adding contracted mental health support within Athletics, strengthening collaboration with Counseling and Psychological Services, introducing a fueling station, increasing per diem allocations, and working closely with Dining Services to better meet student needs. We also expanded student-athlete affinity groups and addressed key gaps within the student experience.

Building Strong and Inclusive Communities

Athletics deepened its commitment to inclusive excellence by supporting diversity initiatives, Pride engagement, and inclusion training across the department. We reimagined the Athletics of Color Coalition with dedicated advising support and partnered with the Chesick Scholars Program on initiatives such as ClipDart to amplify student voice. The men’s and women’s squash programs continued as associate members of the Liberty League, providing conference championship opportunities and recognition comparable to peer institutions. We also strengthened alumni, parent, and fan engagement by bringing on dedicated fundraising leadership to expand affinity networks and support.

Maximizing Competitive Success

We invested strategically in coaching and competitive resources, including hiring full-time assistant coaches for men’s and women’s lacrosse and increasing compensation for part-time assistants. These enhancements have strengthened recruiting, stabilized key programs, and contributed to competitive growth across multiple teams.

Facility and Infrastructure Advancements

Significant facility improvements were advanced or completed, including new lighted outdoor tennis courts, upgraded artificial turf fields, resurfaced track & field areas and throwing spaces, new cricket practice and competition turf, upgraded fitness center and training room flooring, softball sound system upgrades, baseball centerfield camera installation, new grandstand seating at Swan Field, and expanded squash facility planning. These investments ensure our student-athletes train and compete in high-quality environments. Additionally, the elevation of the Director of Athletics to Senior Staff strengthens institutional alignment, advocacy, and representation for Athletics.

None of this progress would have been possible without the dedication, partnership, and commitment of our coaches, staff, alumni, families, and supporters. Together, we continue to position Haverford Athletics for sustained excellence.

New Tennis Courts Elevate Haverford’s Program

The existing Bettye Marshall and Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts will undergo a complete reconstruction to better serve student-athletes and the broader campus community. The new design will feature 12 new courts, replacing the current facilities, in which six of the 12 courts are currently deemed unsafe to play. With construction set to start in Summer 2026, the new USTA-accredited tennis courts will allow Haverford to welcome elite teams and to host tournaments, which is not possible with our current facilities. To learn more about how you can support this project and Haverford Tennis, reach out to Director of Athletics Advancement Jill Glessner.

Strengthening Support

The community of alumni, families, and supporters who have long championed Athletics will now be formally recognized as Friends of Haverford Athletics. These supporters invest in Athletics in many ways through philanthropic support, engagement in alumni and community events, and by attending games and staying connected to our teams and student-athletes.

In support of this work, the General Athletics Fund has been renamed to the Athletics Champions Fund, designed to support the evolving needs of all 23 varsity programs. This updated name reflects our commitment to celebrating and recognizing those who champion the advancement of Athletics, providing flexibility and resources to enhance student-athlete experiences in key areas, including nutrition, professional development, technology, recruiting, and facilities.

From February 10-12th, 2026, Friends of Haverford Athletics came together for our annual athletics giving challenge, GameDay Fords. This challenge activates our community to come together in support of their favorite team and Haverford athletics to raise funds in support of year-to-year needs of our teams, including funding team trips, enhancements to equipment, and other opportunities that strengthen the student-athlete experience. Together, we raised over $380,000 by 1,245 donors, achieving our goal of having two donors for every student athlete on campus.
